Working from home can be a challenge. Our team reveal their home working secrets and their style!

Working from home: tips from the team

Our new social distancing rules are prompting changes to how we live our lives and one of the most significant changes for many of us, is working from home (especially with kids to be entertained, poor wifi connections, etc.).

Here at Mallzee, we have two whole team Zoom calls a day to keep in touch, socialise and check in on each other. We've all agreed that there are certain perks to working from home; the endless cups of tea, our new addiction - the news on tap and a 10 step commute.

Our calls give us a chance to get to know one another even better as we explore each others' new working environments and it's safe to say we're all getting used to the new situation.

That said, working from home can mean wardrobe rules go out the window. We caught up with the team to see what they're wearing these days, plus what they're doing while at home to keep spirits up.

Some of our workspaces: from coloured lights to furry friends

Martina: Data

What's your go-to outfit?

I'm keeping comfy in hoody/tees.

What else are you doing?

Staying sane with video chats to my pals at Mallzee, playing the piano and lots of time with a good book.

Tania: Customer Service

What's your go-to outfit?

I wear joggers (not pyjama bottoms - honest) a nice, bright jumper and actually a little makeup.

What else are you doing?

I try and squeeze in some yoga before work every day, plus I always do a tea round before meetings. With a few friends, we've put together a Cinema forum (sounds better in Italian), so I know that 2-3 times a week we'll be all watching the same thing and we can discuss it later, which is something to look forward to! Books and lots of wine are definitely my allies...

What's your go-to outfit?

I'm definitely 'top half business' with a nice top (or even a blazer…), but I live in leggings and tights outside the reach of the Zoom camera. I switch between the kitchen table, sofa and spare room to change up the view & seating position.

What else are you doing?

Virtual quizzing & games with friends, cooking while watching my favourite TV shows and solo strolls to the deserted local beach for exercise keeps a sense of normality.

Anisha: Commercial

What's your go-to outfit?

I like to stay comfy in loungewear - slipper socks are my cosy must-have.

What else are you doing?

Keeping the music on and doing some form of exercise each day keeps me sane!

Alice: Data

What's your go-to outfit?

I'm making sure I change into outdoor clothes while I'm working then straight into loungewear when I 'clock off'. I've got a work set up in my living room, but I pack it up every day to get my room back.

What else are you doing?

Making sure I pause, look out the window, go for a run or walk and petting Puffin (my cat) is keeping me sane!

Lauren: Marketing

What's your go-to outfit?

Definitely living in sweatpants/gym leggings and knitwear, jeans have been well and truly relegated. I'm working from the sofa but have ordered a desk to create a bit more distance between my home/work life.

What else are you doing?

Getting out to run a couple of times a week plus morning yoga classes with my usual studio through Zoom is a good replacement for my old walk to work, plus reading in the morning and lunch to get away from screens!

Will: Design

What's your go-to outfit?

I suppose I am wearing a hoody and t-shirt more than usual. On the bottom, it's just the usual jeans and trainers. I'm working from my office/studio space in the bedroom which is always set-up.

What else are you doing?

We have a nice outdoor space, so various sports with the kids has been fun. I'm also reading more and cooking a lot more since no commute. I'm watching loads of movies too.

So a real mix in styles, plus some key tips to stay motivated when you're working from home five days a week.

What was interesting when we discussed it internally, is that the typical stereotype of working in pyjamas doesn't quite add up. For most of us working at Mallzee, while comfort is key, 'normal' office clothes are also pretty important for feeling motivated.

We are monitoring daily how buying habits are changing on  Mallzee, as while marketers are turning their focus to loungewear, we think that for some consumers even if they're not going into the office, they'll still want to look the part.
